Placing a parent or loved one in a nursing home is one of the
most difficult decisions a person could ever have to make. All
too frequently, nursing homes are abusing the trust placed in
them.
As the population of the United States continues to age, the
demands placed on our health care system are increasing. Approximately
34 million people over the age of 65 live in the United States,
and an estimated one in twenty will require some form of assisted
living at some point in their lives.
Unfortunately, many senior citizens are becoming victims of
abuse and neglect at nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
In order to maximize profits, many nursing homes trim their
staffing levels to the bare minimum, resulting in woefully inadequate
care and neglect. Tragically, thousands of elderly American
die every year at the hands of careless and poorly trained nursing
home employees.
At JMP, we pride ourselves on our ability to serve as champions
for senior citizens who have been victimized by nursing home
neglect or abuse.
In a recent case, our attorneys helped recover $1.225 million
on behalf of the family of an elderly resident who was allowed
to die from a massive fecal impaction that went untreated for
weeks.
In another case, our attorneys helped recover $500,000 on behalf
of a woman who was given the wrong medication while at a nursing
home, resulting in liver failure and death.
Our attorneys are moved by the appalling treatment that is given
to many elderly Americans, and this compassion fuels our tenacious
pursuit of just compensation for our nursing home clients.
Frequently, family members feel guilty for having placed their
loved one in the care and trust of an institution that ultimately
killed them. Through a nursing home negligence claim, many of
our clients have found the peace and closure that is necessary
for emotional healing.
Our attorneys handle the full spectrum of nursing home negligence
and nursing home abuse cases, including cases arising from the
following:
- Medication errors
- Injuries resulting from falls
- Physical and sexual abuse of nursing home patients
- Untreated bed sores and pressure sores (decubitus ulcers)
- Malnourishment and dehydration
- Fecal impactions (untreated constipation)
- Wandering from facility
- Emotional, psychological and verbal abuse
Our attorneys all have elderly parents, and they understand
the issues confronting senior citizens and family members who
have suffered at the hands of negligent nursing homes.
One of our core beliefs is that elderly people deserve respect,
dignity and safety, and we will fight to ensure that negligence
and abuse of the elderly does not go unpunished. |
